California - On Monday night, Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger
(photo) informed the
public that a budget compromise had been found to close the
Californian $26 billion deficit. The
deal includes more than $15.5 billion cuts in the education sector and in health and welfare
services. More cuts are foreseen in the coming year. The plan will not entail tax
increases. A vote on the measures is expected on
Thursday. California's jobless rate is at 11.6 percent.
