Washington
- The Chairman of the
US Joint Chiefs of Staff, Admiral Mike Mullen (photo), expressed concern about eroding public support for the war in Afghanistan. He
said the situation was serious and deteriorating. Support is down to 47 percent of the American people endorsing the US involvement while over 51 percent said they did not.
Only 42 percent of Americans think that the United States is winning the war in
Afghanistan. President Barack Obama added that the
war was fundamental to the defense of the US people.
