Lloyd Blankfein (photo), the chairman and chief executive of Goldman Sachs has claimed that bankers 'do God's work' while defending the return of bumper profits and bonuses at the
bank. Goldman Sachs is set to pay a record £12billion in salaries and bonuses this
year. Blankfein owns more than £300m in Goldman Sachs
shares. This comes 12 months after Goldman Sachs was bailed out by the U.S. government with a £6bn lifeline
(since paid back) - part of the £430bn paid out to banks during the financial
crisis.
