The
wages of fear - Prayer boxes mistaken for bombs
Philadelphia/USA - A 17-year-old boy
strapping
Jewish ritual prayer boxes (above) to his head and
arm caused a scare on a plane from New York to
Kentucky this Thursday, prompting the pilot make an
emergency landing in Philadelphia. A flight
attendant saw the youth putting on his prayer boxes,
as Jewish men wear on their foreheads (below) and
left arm during morning prayers, and alerted the
pilot suspecting the device was a bomb. The crew
tried to discuss the issue with the passenger but
they did not receive a clear response. The pilot
decided to make an unscheduled landing. Law
enforcement vehicles surrounded the plane after it
touched down. The youth was taken away from the
plane for questioning. He was released after it was
clear he wasn't a threat. The rest of the passengers
were rebooked on other flights.
