Dubai - The Dubai police chief said that an international arrest warrant for the head of Mossad should be issued following the assassination of a Hamas militant in
Dubai. He accused Israel's Mossad intelligence agency of orchestrating the
murder of Hamas commander Mahmoud al-Mabhouh. He said:
"Our investigations reveal that Mossad is involved in the murder of (Mahmoud) al-Mabhouh. It is 99 percent, if not 100 percent, that Mossad is standing behind the
murder." The 18-strong murderous team used the
identities of six British passport holders, three Irish, a German and a French passport
holder.
UK Ministers are furious that Mossad cloned the passports of six unsuspecting
Britons. A UK source said: "If the Israelis were responsible for the assassination in Dubai, they are seriously jeopardising the important intelligence-sharing arrangement that currently exists between Britain and Israel."
Israel had previously given an undertaking never to forge any British documentation in the execution of its mandate. Britain’s relationship with the Israeli security service reached an all-time low in 1986, when the then Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher closed down Mossad’s UK operation in response to a series of incidents including the discovery of a bag of forged British passports which had been lost by a Mossad
agent. Ireland said that it had never issued passports in the names of those implicated in the
assassination. FRG minister Westerwelle (photo) asked Israel
for more information on the killing
operation.
