Kunduz — At least 11 people were killed and more than 50 others injured in Afghanistan on Wednesday during violent protests over the deaths of four civilians in a NATO raid. About 3,000 protesters have demonstrated over the operation overnight. They threw rocks at the Provincial Advisory Team (PAT) compound, where around 40 German soldiers are based. There are currently around 130,000 international troops, the majority from the United States, stationed in Afghanistan. Police chief Noori, who lives near the site, said: "I strongly condemn this brutal act which only killed civilians."
The incident comes after a week in which NATO troops killed and wounded several young Afghan civilians: Monday, they
killed a 10-year-old girl and wounded four other children in eastern Kunar province. Saturday they killed a 15-year-old boy during a raid in Nangarhar. Last Wednesday an unarmed teenage woman and an Afghan policeman also in Nangarhar.
