B.'s parents are Rabbi Marvin Bash, chief rabbi of the Arlington Fairfax Jewish
Congregation, and Dr. Deborah Bash. A native of Arlington, Virginia, B. attended Georgetown University, where he was elected to Phi Beta Kappa, served as the Editor-in-Chief of the student newspaper, The Hoya, and graduated Magna Cum Laude.
In 1998, B. graduated with honors from Harvard Law School, where he served as an editor of the Harvard Law Review. Following his graduation, he clerked for
Leonie Brinkema, U.S. District Judge in the Eastern District of Virginia.
In 2000, B. served as the National Security Issues Director for the Presidential campaign of Al Gore and Joe Lieberman. In that role, he advised the candidates, their surrogates, and staff on national security policy matters, including the Middle East,
counter-terrorism, non-proliferation, missile defense, and trade. From 2001-2004,
he was in private law practice with the firm O’Melveny & Myers in their Washington, DC office. His practice focused on congressional investigations, regulatory matters, and litigation.
B. was admitted to the bars of Virginia, Maryland, DC, the Eastern District of Virginia, and the Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals.
B. is the Chief Counsel of the Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence of the U.S. House of
Representatives. In this position, he advises the Committee Chairman and the other 11 Members of the Committee's Majority on policy and oversight matters related to the operations of the nation's 16 intelligence
agencies. The Committee authorizes the annual budget for the intelligence community and provides oversight for a wide range of
operations, from collection, to analysis, to covert action.
B.
was married to Dana Ruth Schwartz, the daughter of Francie Weinman and Stuart Schwartz of
Montvale, N.J., an assignment editor in the Washington bureau of the Cable News
Network. She graduated cum laude from George Washington University. Her father is the senior broadcast producer of the ABC News program ''Prime Time Live'' in New York. Her mother is a lecturer and an author on Jewish
issues. B. and Schwartz divorced in 2007.
