After
graduation from the Moscow Aviation Institute (1976), K. headed a Soviet laboratory engaged in developing
spacecraft. Since 1993 K. controled 'Acron agrochemical company'. Under his
supervision, Acron has become one of the world’s leading fertilizer producers and
distributors. The Russian Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Russian Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs have recognized Acron as ‘Best Russian Enterprise’ nine
times. From 1996 to 2000 K. was an Economic Adviser to the Chairman of the Federation Council
(the Upper House of the Russian Parliament) of the Federal Assembly of the Russian
Federation. In 2000 he Contributed to founding the National Institute for Corporate Reform
(NICR), a non-profit organisation uniting renowned politicians, business leaders and scholars to provide effective support for corporate reform in Russian
industry.
Since 2007, K. is the President of the 'European Jewish Congress' (EJC).
From
2004 to 2007 he acted as the chairman of the EJC Board of Governors. The EJC is a leading Jewish secular umbrella organisation that co-ordinates 40 national Jewish communities in Europe, encompassing 2.5 million
Jews. Since 2005 K. acted also as President of the Russian Jewish Congress (RJC), a leading secular organisation of modern Russian
Jewry.
