Children in Auschwitz

Remaining documents of the Auschwitz concentration camp contain the names of over 18,000 Jewish, Gypsy, Polish, Russian and other children under the age of 17. Employment records of prisoners in Auschwitz reveal that on April 23, 1944, there were 2,846 male children (not counting the Gypsy camp). On August 21, 1944, there were 779 boys under the age of 14. On October 2 and 3, 1944, the male and female camps in Birkenau housed 2,510 children of both sexes. On January 10, 1945, there were still 940 children of both sexes under the age of 14 in Birkenau.
